Head softball coach Denny Griffin ranks second in Division III for victories as an active coach.
President Jeff Abernathy recognizes Denny Griffin, Alma College’s head softball coach, as this month’s Great Scot for continued coaching success in a career spanning 28 years.
This spring, the Scots won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular season title and conference tournament and advanced to the regional round of the NCAA Tournament. Griffin’s teams have won 14 MIAA championships, making him the highest-ranking MIAA softball coach for conference titles.
“Denny’s 836 career wins ranks second in Division III for victories as an active coach — an amazing accomplishment,” wrote the president in his monthly update to the campus. “Denny also engages with the campus outside of athletics and serves as a liaison member of the Foundations of Excellence Implement Steering Committee.”
President Abernathy periodically presents the Great Scot Award to members of the faculty and staff for “excellence in service to Alma College.”
