The Julius Chatman Living Learning Community (JCLLC) is a community for selected first-year Campbell Scholars Program participants. The JCLLC/Chatman Community is housed in Gelston Hall. The purpose of the Campbell Scholars Program is to foster leadership development, a sense of belonging, and provide academic, social, and cultural support for first-year students of color and their allies. First-year students accepted into the Campbell Scholars Program will live together in the Chatman Community during their first year and continue to participate in the Campbell Scholars Program during their 4 years at Alma College.
JCLLC participants will receive a $375 credit to the Alma bookstore upon acceptance to the program. They will earn a $375 credit to the bookstore upon successful completion of the fall term program requirements and $375 credit to the bookstore upon successful completion of the winter term program requirements as a part of the next year’s stipend. After the first year, Chatman Community students who are invited to continue as Chatman Community mentors in the Campbell Scholars program will have adjusted requirements and can continue to earn up to $750 of bookstore stipend money a year.
