Quaking Aspen is a fast and tall growing tree. It is one of the first species to grow in young habitats or after fires and then establish forests.

If you see aspen trees, succession may be happening. Succession is when one type of habitat turns into another, like a field becoming a forest. Aspen are fast growing.

Use the measuring tape to take the marked Aspen tree’s circumference, or distance around the trunk, in centimeters. Measure at the same height of the pole that the tape hangs from.
