The Mesoscale Discussion Discussion

6:00pm - 6:30pm EST December 3

Location: Microsoft Teams

What on earth is a mesoscale discussion? Discuss it with The Weather Club to find out!

A mesoscale discussion is a short-term weather forecast regarding severe weather possible within 6 hours. There are two types of mesoscale discussions, mesoscale convective discussions and mesoscale precipitative discussions. Mesoscale convective discussions are used to determine when to issue a tornado or severe thunderstorm watch, whereas mesoscale precipitative discussions are used in determining the issuance of a [flash] flood watch. They also include valuable information about future weather conditions that is not available when the conditions are not expected to reach warning criteria.
