The Struggle for Suffrage: Constitution Day 2020

7:00pm - 8:00pm EDT September 17

Location: This is a virtual event

The 19th Amendment, which grants women the right to vote, was ratified 100 years ago.  How did American women achieve this victory–in the middle of a pandemic?  A virtual presentation from Dr. Olbertson, with special guest Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Bridget McCormack.  See below for link.

The 19th Amendment resulted from 75 years of activism by a diverse coalition of social reformers.  However, it did not immediately bestow equal voting rights on all women; Native American, Asian American, Latinx, and Black women all had to continue to fight for access to the ballot.  This virtual presentation will highlight the importance of voting in a healthy democracy.
