American Cancer Society Freshstart Smoking Cessation Program

9:00am - 10:00am EDT April 30

Location: Smith Room, Library

The Freshstart Program is designed to help smokers plan a successful quit attempt by providing essential information, skills for coping with cravings, and group support.

How it Works:

The Freshstart™ evidence-based approach helps participants increase their motivation to quit, learn effective approaches for quitting and guide them in making a successful quit attempt through information, activities, and discussion. The Freshstart Program is designed to help smokers quit smoking and develop coping skills to combat the psychological and physical side effects of smoking cessation. This straightforward, upbeat program is intended to stress the positives of the smoking cessation experience – the reasons to quit, the benefits of quitting – while honestly exploring the very real, unpleasant feelings that are a part of beating the addiction to nicotine and the habit of smoking.  Freshstart focuses on an active, pragmatic approach to quitting smoking with each participant directing his or her own efforts to quit.

Renee Kern, FNP, of the Wilcox Medical Center and David Wier, LLPC from the Counseling Center are both certified Freshstart™  facilitator and will be offering Freshstart™  to Alma College faculty, staff and students.
