Kiltie Marching Band 100th Anniversary

2022 is a momentous year for the Kiltie Marching Band as it marks 100 years of band at Alma College. We hope you join us in celebrating this centennial season!

Alma College Kiltie Marching Band 100 Years

The Kiltie Band was founded in 1922 as a pep band and has evolved over the last century into a full marching ensemble, led by Dave Zerbe, the Paul Cameron Russell Professor of Music and director of bands and percussion studies. Professor Zerbe and the Alma College Alumni Office have partnered together to organize a variety of centennial events and opportunities for current Kiltie Marching Band members and alumni to celebrate.

Homecoming

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for the Kiltie Marching Band festivities at Homecoming this year! There were over 75 alumni band members who performed the fight song on the field at pre-game with the current kiltie band, and we loved celebrating with you in the evening at the KMB 100 Reception.

Centennial Celebration

The final performance of the Kiltie Marching Band season is the Indoor Show. Following the matinee on Sunday, November 20, 2022, there will be an official Centennial Celebration event with special recognitions of the program and its impact on Alma College. We hope you’ll join us in celebration of the last century of Kiltie Marching Band.

KMB Indoor Show

The marching band presents their ever-popular Indoor Show, this year aptly titled Dualchas Linn (scotch Gaelic for “heritage of a century”)! The concert will feature the marching band, pipe band, color guard, drumline, and more. Get your tickets to the show here.

KMB Centennial Celebration - registration is closed.

We invite you to join us for the KMB Centennial Celebration event after the final Indoor Show. Tickets are $35 and include dinner, drinks, and a program of events recognizing the Kiltie Marching Band.

Sunday, November 20
Art Smith Arena, Hogan Center
5:30 p.m. Reception
6:30 p.m. Dinner
7:00 p.m. Program

Additionally, we are excited to partner with New Holland Brewing Company to offer a KMB-themed amber ale, Dualchas Linn, to match the theme of the Indoor Show. This “heritage of a century” ale will be exclusively available at the Centennial Celebration. You’ll also be able to purchase a KMB100 commemorative pint glass to take home a piece of the 100-year celebration.

If you have any photos or videos of your time in the marching band, please share them with us so we can display them at the centennial event. You can email them to kmb100@alma.edu or upload to our online form here.

Support the next 100 years

We encourage Kiltie Marching Band alumni and friends to consider making a gift to support the band if you are in a position to do so. With such a long history and strong alumni base, gifts of any size make a formidable impact. For example, if every KMB alum were to make a $100 gift in honor of the band’s Centennial, almost $750,000 would be raised! View the KMB 100 giving page here.
