Alma College Planetarium
The Planetarium on the Alma College campus is available for use in the classroom, as well as public shows. The Planetarium Club presents movies on the ceiling, as well as doing shows for the college community and the general public. The Planetarium is a way to show off the campus as well as inform the community about the night sky. Shows are occasionally paired with telescope observation events.
History
The Planetarium was installed in the late 1950s when the new Dow Science Center was constructed. In the 1990s, when the Center was remodeled, the projector was updated. Over the years, it has either been heavily used or sat idle. With the new projector in the 1990s Dale and Barb Greer, local residents of Alma and Alma College Alumni took on doing regular shows for classrooms in the area. Since their retirement, the Planetarium Club has begun to take on some of these duties.
