Aquatics and Safety Classes

McClure Natatorium

McClure Natatorium has a six-lane, 25-yard pool with competitor lane lines. Each lane is seven feet across with one-and-a-half feet on each side of the pool for wave reduction. Paragon starting blocks are located in the deep end. One three-meter standard and two one-meter diving boards are also located in the deep end. The facility has seating for 400 spectators.

Alma College Recreation Center offers a pool-only membership. The pool-only membership is available ONLY as a 12-month term, becomes effective at the time of purchase and expires one year from the date of purchase. The pool-only membership is not pro-rated. American Red Cross Certification Classes

Alma College is an authorized provider of American Red Cross certification programs. All classes are held at either the Stone Recreation Center or at the Hogan Center. We are happy to accommodate participants of all abilities.

Courses Offered

CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid

The purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers program is to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. This program is offered in a traditional classroom or blended learning (online learning with instructor-led skill session) formats.

Certification
  • Two-year Professional Rescuers (PR) and First Aid Certifications.
Pre-Requisites/Requirements
  • No prerequisites.
  • Must attend and fully participate in the entire class.
  • Must pass all skill checks and receive an 80% or higher on written exam.
Class Length

Approximately seven hours. 

Cost
  • $90 Alma College Recreation Center members.
  • $100 for non-members.

 NOTE: Participants who fail a certification class will not receive a credit or refund.

Registration Deadline

Five days before the start of class.

Policies

Cancellation Information

If a class is cancelled or rescheduled by Alma Campus Recreation Center, registrants will receive a voucher good toward the same class held at a future date within the academic year or receive a full refund. Refunds are mailed in the form of an Alma College check and processing takes three to four weeks.

Dropping a Class

If a registrant drops a class with at least five business days’ notice, s/he will receive a voucher or a refund minus a $15 processing fee. If a registrant drops a class with fewer than a five business days’ notice, no credit or refund will be issued. To drop or reschedule a class, participants should contact Alma College Recreation Center by calling (989) 463-7949.

Failing a Class

Participants who fail a certification class will not receive a credit or a refund.
