For Employers

Do you want hardworking employees who can think critically, communicate clearly and solve complex problems? Alma graduates have field-specific knowledge and a broad range of skills—and most employers agree that combination leads to success.

Posting Open Positions

If you would like to post job or internship opportunities, please create an employer account on Handshake, our online job board for Alma College students and recent graduates.  If you have questions, please contact the Center for Student Opportunity (CSO).

In addition, Handshake is the place to post local part-time positions for current students. To reach the most students, please list the position type as both “Part Time” and “Off-Campus Student Employment.” Summer jobs are welcome, too!

Important note about posting unpaid internships: before you post an unpaid internship, please ensure that the position complies with the Department of Labor guidelines for internships under the Fair Labor Standards Act

On-Campus Recruitment

We welcome recruiters and will work with you to develop a personalized schedule that meets the needs of both you and our students. Your day may include:

  • An open informational session
  • Individual meetings or interviews (pre-screened by our staff or selected by you)
  • An information table in our dining commons
  • In-class presentations (at faculty request)

Please contact the CSO for more information. We look forward to working with you!

Job Fairs

Instead of a traditional job fair, Alma College hosts a unique event each fall called Career EXPLO. It is a cross between a job fair and networking event, providing upperclassmen with exposure to entry-level jobs and internships while allowing underclassmen to explore potential career paths. While many participants are alumni, we are excited to add more recruiters yearly.

Register for Career EXPLO

Additionally, Alma College students attend Job Pursuit alongside their classmates from Michigan’s other private colleges. The event takes place each spring in Lansing, Michigan. Combined with other recruiting efforts, participating in Job Pursuit would give you access to an amazing pool of potential talent!

Alma Venture

The Alma Venture program provides students with up to $2,500 to offset certain costs associated with an eligible internship, research or clinical experience. The program allows students to put what they are learning in the classroom to work in a meaningful way and advance their academic or career goals.

Venture support is not available for work for a relative, work based in a private home, or for remote or virtual internships. Also, the grant does not replace a wage for a position that would be offered as a paid internship.

For additional information on Venture-eligible internships, see this information sheet for host-site supervisors or contact Carla Jensen at jensencr@alma.edu.

Career Development at Alma College adheres to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Principles for Professional Practice. The guidelines support the collaborative effort of career development and employment professionals while reducing the potential for abuses. The guidelines also apply to recruiting technology and third-party recruiting relationships which may be substituted for the traditional personal interaction among career services professionals, employer professionals, and students.
