Admission Requirements

Below are the admission requirements for first-year students. Transfer students should contact the nursing department directly at mckennaja@alma.edu or (989) 463-7607.

  1. Entry Points
    • For a student wishing to enter the program after their freshman year, admissions will be dependent upon:
      • Availability of an open slot in the nursing program
      • Student maintaining a 3.0 (B) GPA overall and a minimum grade of BC in physiology (IPH 225)
    • For a student wishing to enter the program after their sophomore year, admissions will be dependent upon:
      • Availability of an open slot in the nursing program
      • Student maintaining a 3.0 (B) GPA overall and a minimum grade of a BC in anatomy (IPH 344), human physiology (IPH 225 and 226), pathophysiology (IPH 328) and pharmacology (IPH 340)
  2. Satisfactory progression and completion of nursing program
    • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 (B) GPA overall
    • Must maintain a minimum grade of a 3.0 (B) in all nursing (NUR) courses
    • Students who receive less than a satisfactory grade (less than a BC – 2.5) in the sciences or less than a 3.0 (B) in nursing courses (NUR) cannot proceed with the program.
      • The student must retake an NUR course to achieve a passing grade (3.0 – B)
      • The student can only repeat a NUR course once
      • A total of two initial unsatisfactory grades in any nursing course (NUR) will result in dismissal from the program
