Admission Requirements

Below are the admission requirements for first-year students. Transfer students should contact the nursing department directly at chaplenra@alma.edu or (989) 463-7399.

  1. Entry Points 
    • For a first-year student to enter the nursing program, admission will be dependent upon:
      • Admission to Alma College
      • Student identifying nursing as planned major
    • For a student wishing to enter the program after their freshman year, admission will be dependent upon:
      • Availability of an open slot in the nursing program
      • Student maintaining a 2.5 (BC) GPA overall
    • For a student wishing to enter the program after their sophomore year, admission will be dependent upon:
      • Availability of an open slot in the nursing program
      • Student maintaining a 2.5 (BC) GPA overall
      • Student must have taken and achieved a minimum grade of a C in anatomy (IPH 344), human physiology (IPH 227), pathophysiology (IPH 328) and pharmacology (IPH 340)
  2. Satisfactory progression and completion of nursing program
    • All nursing students must maintain a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in nursing (NUR) courses.
    • All nursing students must earn a minimum grade of C in the following IPH courses: 227, 328, 340, and 344.
    • All nursing students must earn a minimum grade of BC in every nursing (NUR) course to progress in the program.
    • Any nursing student earning a C or below in a nursing course (NUR) must repeat the course to remain in the program and progress. The student may continue to take courses in the same tier while waiting to repeat the course.
    • A student may repeat only one nursing course (NUR), and may repeat a nursing course only one time. If a student fails to achieve a grade of BC or above in a second NUR course, or a grade of BC or above in a repeated nursing course, the student will not be allowed to remain in the Alma College nursing program.
