PRIDE - Alma College's Gay-Straight Alliance

PRIDE

Pride (Alma College Gay-Straight Alliance), is a campus organization for students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual, their friends, and allies. PRIDE is a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation, and work to end homophobia. The purpose of this group is to provide support to students and to inform the college community about issues which are of concern to the GLBT community.

Alma’s innovative PRISM project—Positive Routes Into Science and Mathematics—gets more students excited about science. It engages students in research opportunities not only in their first, second, third and fourth years of college but also in the summer prior to taking their first college course. PRISM is funded by a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.

Graduate Profile

Amy Doucette
Graduation: 1995
Major: Exercise and Health Science, Art and Design

Through her experiences at Alma College, Amy Doucette learned that occupational therapy is more than a profession — it’s a philosophy.

“It is about helping people regain balance and meaning in their lives after a setback, whether physical, mental or social — the scope of treatment is huge,” the 1995 graduate says. “It involves teaching, adapting, promoting recovery, providing resources and rehabilitating the upper extremity in helping people return to their activities of daily living.”
