What happened to the Center for Student Development?

The counseling staff at the Center for Student Development (CSD) has joined our health center staff to become Counseling, Wellness, and Health Services.

The Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) provides free, confidential counseling related to adjustment issues, personal growth, human development, and interpersonal relationships.

The CWC staff will also provide educational programs on wellness issues, alcohol, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and other mental health issues that affect college students. Full-time licensed professional counselors (LPCs) and limited licensed professional counselors (LLPCs) will be available for personal counseling to our students.

 What is Alma Wellness Initiative?

Most of us encounter situations that challenge our well being on a daily basis. For our students, the management of classes, deadlines, or relationships requires the ability to look after oneself and to find balance.

The integration of counseling and health service allows us to provide programs that address the needs of the whole student by focusing on the dimensions of wellness: social, emotional, physical, cultural, spiritual and intellectual health.

The goal of our wellness initiative is to promote the health and well-being of our students through the delivery of programs and services that enable them to accomplish their academic goals and enhance personal development.

We believe that wellness should be a conscious choice and is associated with emotional stability, improved personal relationships and good physical health.

Why did we change our health care delivery system?

Many colleges and universities have been challenged by the rising costs associated with providing health care services. Our administration felt that it was important to make a commitment to the continuation of on-campus health services but also recognized the need to control costs while providing top quality professional care.

The contractual agreement with Gratiot Medical Center assures the sustainability of high quality on campus health care for our college community while providing us access to the larger Mid Michigan Health Care system.

 Must I have insurance?

Our contractual arrangement with Gratiot Medical Center requires that fees be charged for service. The hospital accepts most standard insurance and will be providing insurance processing services for our health clinic.

Co-pays will be collected at the time of service. Individuals without insurance are welcome to use our campus health care services but will be required to pay at time of service or you will be billed by Gratiot Medical Center.
