Mitchell Hall

Mitchell Hall has always been described by residents as having a very tight-knit group of diverse students. From athletes to artists, Mitchell houses students from every walk of life. Doors are always open in Mitchell, creating an incredibly inviting atmosphere.

Located on the East Side of campus, Mitchell is close to two large parking lots, making it easily accessible for students and friends. It is also close to Hamilton Commons for when students want to grab a bite to eat without having to walk too far.

The recreation room in Mitchell is a popular one—it contains a foosball table, a ping-pong table, a big screen television and, of course, plenty of comfortable couches.

Initially built as a residence hall for men, Mitchell was completed in 1960 and named after James E. Mitchell, a graduate of Alma College’s class of 1893 and professor at the college for 44 years. It is a coed residence hall.

Frank Knox’s accomplishments are extraordinary: From fighting alongside Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders and publishing the Chicago Daily News vice presidential candidate in 1936 to Secretary of the Navy under Franklin D. Roosevelt. Through it all, the 1912 graduate stayed true to his Alma College roots. His portrait adorns the conference room in the Reid-Knox Administration Building.

After quitting cheer in high school, Belleville senior Jaycee Nelson thought she had hung up her pom-poms for good. But when she came to Alma College, she decided to give the sport another try.

“Cheer is a lot of hard work, but it’s also very rewarding,” she says. “The team is one of my strongest support groups on campus, and we have a lot of fun together.”
