A Message from the Area Coordinator...

Welcome to South Complex!

On the other side of Superior Street you’ll find several unique housing options that are only available on South Campus and only to upperclassmen. South Complex consists of Wright Hall, Alma’s premiere residence hall. It features individual bedrooms, kitchens, and personal bathrooms shared with one other student. The other residence halls on the South side are Bonbright/Carey & Nisbet/Brazell (suite style). There are also 4 themed small houses, including Service Learning, MacCurdy House, Creative Arts, and Model United Nations.
Students enjoy the contrast of the South side’s unique living/learning housing options as compared to the residence halls on the North side of campus. South Complex is characterized by students enjoying independence, privacy, and a community environment conducive to studying and academic success. In addition, South Complex has different programming goals than North campus. Students will experience an emphasis on relationships with peers, fostering mentor relationships with faculty, and close collaboration with the Academic & Career Planning Office. Collaboration with ACP is designed to help students succeed academically through support services, increase understanding of off-campus studies, the grad school application process, job search process, and career development such as résumés, cover letters, networking, interviewing skills, internships, career fairs, etc. The South Complex staff consists of a full-time professional Residence Life Area Coordinator, ten Resident Assistants, and even “Peer Career Consultants” that have open office hours to provide career advising on a walk-in basis.
Hopefully as upperclassmen at Alma College you’re excited to join the amazing community on South campus and experience the unique living/learning environments and programming it offers students.

Alma College ranks second in the nation in the percentage of students who participate in alternative break service trips, according to Break Away, the national organization that supports the development of alternative break experiences that inspire lifelong active citizenship. Last year, Alma students provided flood relief, built affordable homes, planned activities for terminally ill children, constructed wheelchair ramps, worked with immigrants, and assisted in after-school programs.
