Part II: Organizations Descriptions
Alma College Panhellenic Council
The Panhellenic Council (Panhel) is the governing body for the five Greek women's groups on campus. Panhel has an executive board that consists of nine officers. President, Vice President, Secretary, Special Events Coordinator, Treasurer/Intersorority Coordinator, Rush Coordinator, Assistant Rush Coordinator, Public Relations, and Education Coordinator. The first four of these positions are filled through an election process, while the remaining five positions are filled through a rotation schedule. Election/Rotations are held in March with new officers serving from January through the following December.
Alma College Interfraternity Council
The Alma College Interfraternity Council (IFC) is a governing body for the five fraternities on campus. The IFC has an executive board made up of nine officers including President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fraternity Affairs Chair, Special Events Chair, Public Relations Chair, Rush Chair and Service Chair. All of these positions are filled by way of general election. Members form any chapter can run for one of these offices as long as their chapter is in good standing with the IFC. Officers are elected to serve for a full academic year and elections are held during Winter Term of the year prior to service.
The IFC serves to assist all of the fraternities in developing stronger chapters and providing educational opportunities for all of their members. Weekly meetings are held to discuss any issues or concerns that may be prevalent within the fraternity or Greek system as a whole. Any member of the Greek community may attend the weekly IFC meetings, however voting on any business matters is limited to the elected representatives of each fraternity. IFC also serves the role of a chapter advising system in the areas of risk management and social host responsibilities through educational programs, discussion groups, and party patrols. In addition, IFC operates it's own judicial board to handle situations in which a chapter has violated any college or IFC policy, except those violations which could lead to suspension.
Even though the individual Greek organizations on campus have their own philanthropies, both the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils give back to the community by participating in several philanthropy projects each year. Many of the philanthropy projects change from year to year depending on the needs of the community.
