Do Something* Kick-Off

The Kick-Off Event

If you were around Alma College on Friday, August 29, 2008, you likely saw over 350 Alma College students Doing Something*. They were working on a variety of projects, including:

  • Washing cars for free
  • Visiting seniors at Masonic Pathways
  • Cleaning up the parks and river
  • Working at the Habitat house
  • Collecting canned goods and organizing the food pantry

These students were all part of our Do Something* initiative. Our hope is that Do Something* will become a new tradition here at Alma College beginning with the Class of 2012.

We’d like to thank the following individuals and businesses for making our first Do Something* event a great success:

Building a table
  • The Class of 2012
  • Alma College Resident Assistants
  • Alma College Orientation Committee
  • Screen and Stitch
  • Tom Billig Flowers and Gifts
  • The Masonic Pathways
  • Bob Moore Flowers
  • Alma College Physical Plant
  • SODEXO
  • First Presbyterian Church
  • David Justin of Habitat for Humanity
  • His Place

A special thank you to Terri Freeland, Latisha Misenhelder, and the Alma faculty, administrators and staff from more than 20 different offices and departments who volunteered countless hours to make Do Something* work.

Alma’s off-campus study programs do more than place students in exciting locales to meet interesting people; they also create new opportunities for personal growth and skill development. One of the best ways to learn about other societies and cultures is to study and travel in international settings. You do not always have to know a foreign language.
