The Barnabas Society is an informal fellowship of Religious Studies majors and minors, members of the Religious Studies Honorary Society, students considering faith-based vocations, and friends of the above. The group meets regularly for laughter, mutual support and conversation about faith-based vocations.

Alma College’s first-year students can choose to “go green” through the Get Out Bike Program, designed to reduce their carbon impact. By signing a pledge not to bring a car to campus, participants in the program receive a bike to keep at a discounted rate. Downtown businesses are easily accessible to student cyclists. Campus also is bordered by the 41-mile Fred Meijer Heartland Trail.

Carly Schlinkert

Carly Schlinkert
Graduation: 2013
Major: German

One thing Carly Schlinkert won’t need when she studies abroad in Germany next semester? A German-to-English dictionary! The Sterling Heights senior has been studying German since her freshman year of high school.

“Coming from a German family, my dad was always very gung-ho about the culture,” she says. “When I was little, I used to look up German words all the time, so I’m excited to speak constant German and to be totally immersed in the language and culture.”
