Why I got involved with Chapel: I got involved because of friends and I wanted to stay near the church when at school.

Why I applied to be a SMC: I applied to be a SMC because I felt like it was something I could do to pay it forward and help the Chapel.

What I like most about being a SMC/involved in Chapel: The services and the people, they are all so welcoming.

The biggest thing I’ve learned so far being a SMC: There are many parts to making the services each Sunday run smoothly.

Why I recommend other students get involved in Chapel: The Chapel is such a fun place to be.

Hobbies and activities: Alma College Swimming and Diving Team, Alma Youth Mix Design Team.

Alma College’s membership in Phi Beta Kappa is an indication of excellence within the liberal arts. Only 10 percent of colleges and universities in the United States share this distinction. The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious undergraduate honors organization.

Dr. Marc Setterlund
Departments: Psychology

During the first two years of Marc Setterlund’s undergraduate studies, he was a chemistry major who was bound and determined to become a doctor—until a run-in with a rat changed his mind.

“We had to use a scalpel to dissect dead rats, and I couldn’t do it,” he says. “My hands were shaking, and I realized that if I couldn’t do surgery on a dead rat, I could never do it on a live person.”
