Introduction to the 35mm SLR (Single Lens reflex) camera, wet room photography, technical processes for film development and traditional printing methods. The relationship between traditional and digital photography as they apply to various aesthetic themes, visual literacy and theories will be considered. A comparative study of traditional and digital techniques will help students understand the relationships between workflows, aesthetics, and techniques the two photographic techniques share.

 

Distinguishing landmarks on Alma’s campus include the Posey Bench near the Hood Building, the Bishop Makarios Memorial Sculpture, the “Momentum” sculpture near the entrance to the Hogan Center, the Spirit Rock behind the Library, the Bahlke Field Gate, the Peace Poles in McIntyre Mall, and the Redman Gate along Superior Street that welcomes campus visitors.

World peace may seem too big a stretch for some, but Alma College alumna Nicole Rohrkemper is willing to extend an olive branch wherever she can.

As the International Peace Teams Deployment Coordinator for the Michigan Peace Team, she recruits and deploys groups for nonviolent intervention in war and conflict zones.

β€œI have always been fascinated by other cultures and far-off places, and I have a passion for international travel,” says Rohrkemper, who graduated in 2005. β€œIn the past 10 years, I have spent time in Argentina, Thailand, Germany, Switzerland, Jordan and many other countries.”
