Tiputini Grant Awardee

More Details:

I was awarded a grant, through Boston University, and participated in a tropical rain forest travel excursion to the Tiputini Biodiversity Station in eastern Ecuador (northwest Amazon). Along with 8 other educators, we were involved with direct training of teacher educators (through science methods courses and practicum supervision) and joined Boston University under the direct supervision of Dr. Doug Zook. The Science Education Department and the sedGreen Committee of the School of Education at Boston University reviewed applicants and selected 8 individuals who received an award of full coverage of accommodations, food, guides, travel, and program administration for ten days: January 2 – 12, 2009. The award was worth approximately $800 with a purpose of learning as much as possible about biodiversity and conservation and bring that information and skill back to enhance our own curriculums.

Students at Alma College are involved in any of nearly 75 campus organizations, including fraternities and sororities, student government, academic honorary societies, campus media, intramural sports, the performing arts and worship groups.

Pam Prewett

Pam Prewett
Graduation: 2014
Major: Psychology

Psychology major and horse owner Pam Prewett has worked with horses for 10 years. The opportunity to easily commute back home and see her horses is one of the reasons she decided to attend Alma College. Naturally, her career plans revolve around her favorite four-legged friends as well.

ā€œI’m going into equine-assisted psychotherapy, so before going on and becoming certified in family counseling, an undergraduate foundation in psychology will really help me with my future practice,ā€ she says.
