Alma College Percussion Ensemble.  "29th Annual Detroit International Jazz Festival."  Hart Plaza, Detroit.  August 31, 2008.

More Details:

The Alma College Percussion Ensemble was invited to perform for the 29th Annual Detroit International Jazz Festival, held in Detroit. The 33-member ensemble performed a well-received one-hour set on Labor Day. This was the groups' third appearance at the festival.

Alma’s innovative PRISM project—Positive Routes Into Science and Mathematics—gets more students excited about science. It engages students in research opportunities not only in their first, second, third and fourth years of college but also in the summer prior to taking their first college course. PRISM is funded by a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.

Student Profile

Emily Hollenberg

Emily Hollenberg
Graduation: 2014
Major: English

Whether she’s reading a Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller or penning a novel of her own, Indiana junior Emily Hollenberg’s native language is literature.

“I’ve loved English my whole life, and once I outgrew the firefighter stage, I knew I wanted to teach it,” she says. “I would like to be a high school teacher and also continue to write, whether as a novelist, poet or blogger. You can express yourself in a different way through reading and writing. They transport you to a different world for a while.”
