"Alma College/Hohner Institute of Percussion Marching Band Invitational."  Bahlke Field, Alma College Campus.  October 11, 2008.

More Details:

The Alma College Kiltie Marching Band in conjunction with the Hohner Institute of Percussion hosted the Fourth Annual Marching Band Invitational. Over 600 students from nine Michigan high school bands came to Alma College on October 1 to perform and compete. A panel of six judges adjudicated the bands and ranked them in three flights according to school size and quality of performance. The Kiltie Marching Band provided the physical manpower to run the festival and performed in exhibition at the end of the festival.

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team has won 11 consecutive regional championships. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principles of market economics through outreach projects in their communities. Last year’s team presented 12 projects, including teaching ethics and entrepreneurship skills to students at a juvenile detention center and launching an entrepreneurship competition for students with business ideas.

Prof. Carrie Parks-Kirby

Prof. Carrie Parks-Kirby
Departments: Art and Design

The work of Carrie Parks-Kirby, professor of art and design, reflects an ongoing interest in historical, architectural, and ceramic forms while exploring contemporary themes through personal, often autobiographical, imagery.

“I have felt deeply the influence of figures made for the tombs of ancient Chinese and Japanese nobles: Haniwa courtiers and farmers, Han dwellings and processions, T’ang horses and Q’uin soldiers,” she said. “The eloquent gestures and facial expressions of Mayan and Olmec figures and the serene dignity of Etruscan terra cotta couples never fail to move me.”
