The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team has won 11 consecutive regional championships. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principles of market economics through outreach projects in their communities. Last year’s team presented 12 projects, including teaching ethics and entrepreneurship skills to students at a juvenile detention center and launching an entrepreneurship competition for students with business ideas.

Student Profile

Alex Hegedus

Alex Hegedus
Graduation: 2014
Major: Computer Science and Mathematics

Want to be a world traveler? A mathematic researcher? An Ultimate Frisbee player? A fraternity brother? At Alma College, Jackson junior Alex Hegedus doesn’t have to choose among his interests.

“You are able to do so many different things at Alma,” he says. “Friends at bigger universities say they have to pick one extracurricular and stick to that, so if I wanted to play Frisbee, I could only play Frisbee. But here it’s possible to make friends in so many different areas and be involved in so much.”
