School Health and Physical Education: Secondary.  IPH 271b.

This course is designed to expose secondary education majors to teaching content for school health and physical education. Specifically, students enrolled practice their teaching skills by preparing and presenting lessons from the Michigan Model for Comprehensive School Health Education.

 

Alma College’s first-year students can choose to “go green” through the Get Out Bike Program, designed to reduce their carbon impact. By signing a pledge not to bring a car to campus, participants in the program receive a bike to keep at a discounted rate. Downtown businesses are easily accessible to student cyclists. Campus also is bordered by the 41-mile Fred Meijer Heartland Trail.

Even at a young age, Kerry Dembowski Bryan ’09 knew that she was destined for a career in education.

“When I was 7, I got a letter from my teacher before school started,” she says. “I remember telling my mom that when I was a teacher, I would send out letters, too. Since then, my passion has never changed. I love working with children.”
