More Details:

Students will explore the elements and principles of design as the foundation needed to create conceptually and aesthetically pleasing plastic, graphic and media arts. Students will gain the vocabulary needed to objectively critique formal aspects of art and understand how their personal point of view can be expressed beyond literalism with the use of the elements and principles of design. Cultivating creativity, problem solving and developing critical thinking skills, as applied to the plastic, graphic and media arts, will be incorporated through readings, journaling, critiques, and individual art pieces. Students will also gain an understanding of the critique process through reading and actual critiques.

Alma College students have the ability to design their own area of academic concentration—with the assistance of a faculty advisor—to meet specific educational or career goals. In recent years, students have graduated with Programs of Emphasis majors in such fields as arts management, archaeology and anthropology, environmental policy and community advocacy, Foreign Service and international law, and music technology and digital media.
