Welcome to the Alma College family!

Even when students move away from home to attend college, we recognize that parents will continue to play a significant role in their lives. When your son or daughter becomes a Scot, so do you.

As your student prepares to enter college, it is likely that you are filled with hopes and dreams for your son or daughter. You’re probably also filled with questions. We hope that you will find many of the answers to your questions on this website.

Should any additional questions or concerns arise, however, we encourage you to reach out. Members of our Parent Board can share a more personal view of what to expect on this journey. Faculty and staff also are available to keep you informed.

We want your son or daughter to have a meaningful college experience at Alma: one that is filled with challenge, growth and success. In order to help them achieve this, we are committed to supporting our students both academically and personally throughout their Alma experience.

From the first year to graduation, Alma is here to assist you through this transition.

Alma College students are the pacesetters at the national Model United Nations competition in New York City. Alma has received "outstanding delegation" awards in each of the last 15 years (1997 through 2011) — the longest active winning streak of any college or university. Alma College's 28 all-time "outstanding delegation" awards are the most of any college or university in the 88-year history of the conference.

Graduate Profile

Austin Mitchell

Austin Mitchell
Graduation: 2007
Major: Elementary Education

Having long admired his mother’s work as an elementary teacher, it’s no wonder Austin Mitchell ’07 followed in her footsteps.

The fourth-grade math teacher recently was selected as one of 1,100 teachers across the nation to receive surprise donations of school supplies from Office Max and Food Lion Grocery Stores.

Nominated by the principal of his Virginia elementary school for “going beyond the call of duty,” Mitchell says the education faculty members at Alma College, including Peggy Thelen, Janet Navarro and Mark Seals, are a big part of the teacher he is today.
