Norma Pinkerton Nisbet '49
Pledge Class: F'46
Current Location: St. Joseph, Michigan
Since Alma and Currently: I took 10 credit hours during the summer of 1948 at Eastern Michigan University so that I could graduate mid-year, but I had to come back in June, 1949 to go through the ceremony with my class.
I got married to Steve Nisbet on December 18, 1948 and I started teaching English/Geography/Phys Ed in January 1949 in Lowell, MI. (Steve had graduated in June, 1947. He was a teacher, then principal then superintendent at Lowell) Later on, when we moved to St. Joseph, I went back to college at Western Michigan University for my Masters in Library Science and was an elementary librarian with 6 elementary schools in St. Joseph, and then transferred to the middle school. I have 4 sons and 9 grandchildren.
I grew up in Saginaw and graduated from Saginaw High School which was a large school, so I really enjoyed the smallness of Alma and the opportunity to make good friends. My friends from Alma for the past 50 years have been my K.I. sisters. I had a lot of fun at Alma. That is where I met the man who became my husband and we were married in the college chapel by the President of Alma College, Dr. Hamilton. About 4 generations of Nisbets have attended Alma.
KI Memories/Old Traditions: Phi Phi Alpha was the K.I. brother fraternity and a number of my K.I. friends married Phi's.
