Inauguration To Highlight Martin Luther King Jr. Week

The inauguration of the first African-American president of the United States highlights Alma College's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Week Jan. 18–22, 2009.

Public viewing of the televised inauguration ceremony occurs on campus Jan. 20, 2009, followed by a panel discussion on this year's theme, “Where Do We Go From Here?”

Other activities include the fourth annual MLK Poetry Slam, student reflections on the legacy of Dr. King, a campus blood drive, and community service opportunities.

“I have gotten my best ideas from undergraduates because they are not afraid of making mistakes,” the professor of psychology says. “Because of the ability to interact with students in the lab, you learn more working here than you would at a larger research university.”
