"This weekend is a wonderful opportunity for the college community to check out some excellent dancing," says Kate DeGood, director of highland dancing." Alma College has some of the very best highland dancers from across the United States who will be participating in the competition and performance. There also will be dancers traveling from across the Midwest and Canada competing on Saturday in the traditional dances as well as more contemporary choreography events."
Highland dancers at all levels are invited to register for the indoor dance competition, with Judge Anne Sutherland presiding. Competition classes include primary, beginner, novice, intermediate and premier and comprise Lilt, Pas De Basques, Highland Fling, Sword and Truibhas as well as choreography.
Entries are accepted through Oct. 31. Pre-registration is required, and entry fees vary by class. Register here.
Highland dancing workshops will be offered Sunday, Nov. 3. Instructors Sutherland and DeGood will offer primary, beginner, novice, intermediate and premier instruction. Workshop entry fees include a light snack. BATD Exams will be offered Sunday afternoon following the workshop.
The Weekend of Highland Dance is made possible by Alma College in partnership with the Alma Highland Festival.
