Amanda Slenski Named Director of Admissions

Maintaining Alma College’s positive enrollment momentum is the primary goal for Amanda Slenski, who starts Jan. 2 as the new director of admissions.

Slenski has filled multiple roles since joining the Alma College admissions staff, most recently serving as senior assistant director of admissions. She follows Bob Garcia in this position; Garcia was appointed Alma College’s vice president for enrollment in August 2012.

She will oversee the day-to-day operations of a 17-member admissions staff and be responsible for developing strategic recruitment plans that position Alma for success in a changing higher education environment, says Garcia.

“Amanda brings significant experience as a recruiter and senior admissions officer at Alma College in addition to her previous administrative work in higher education at other institutions,” says Garcia. “As an Alma alumnus, her knowledge of the life-changing experiences that Alma offers is something she can communicate clearly and authentically.”

Last September, Alma College enrolled the largest number of students in its history, continuing positive momentum that has seen a 21 percent enrollment increase over the past seven years. The total headcount of 1,464 students, a 3.3 percent increase over the previous year, included 487 new students, shattering the previous incoming class record of 458.

Prior to joining the Alma College admissions staff in 2010, Slenski was a housing director at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, leadership advisor for Alpha Gamma Delta International, and a recruitment coordinator and graduate housing director at Miami University in Ohio. She has a master’s degree from Miami University with a focus in student affairs administration.

Dr. Sean Mo
Departments: Chemistry

Sean Mo has an undergraduate professor to thank for both his love for chemistry and his desire to teach.

“I had an incredible physical chemistry professor at Whitman College, and he made us appreciate the field of chemistry,” the assistant professor of chemistry says. “Furthermore, it was his personable interaction with his students in class that really drew me into the field. I learned a lot from him, and the rest is history.”
