“This show is a change of pace from our past comedy performances,” says Mike Sheldon, event coordinator at the Remick Heritage Center. “This is a show for college students and adults similar to what you would find in big city clubs. Shoemaker specializes in relationship and current events humor. His most famous character is the ‘lovemaster,’ who has some interesting takes on dating and relationships.”
A versatile performer, Shoemaker has shot multiple specials for TV, starred in numerous films, written two children’s books, and hosts his own syndicated radio show.
Shoemaker uses his celebrity to help those in need, says Sheldon. In 2003, Shoemaker founded the Laughter Heals Foundation, a nonprofit group dedicated to “raising awareness of the healing power of laughter.” The foundation conducts programs in hospitals and after-care facilities that initiate healing through laughter.
Shoemaker’s feature film credits include the box-office hit “Scream 2,” his role co-starring opposite Patrick Stewart in “Safe House” and his starring role opposite Daryl Hannah in “Dark Honeymoon.” He was named Best Supporting Actor at the 2007 Elevate Film Festival, and his own film, “The Lovemaster,” with Farrah Fawcett won “Best Film” honors at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival.
His small screen credits include his one-hour special on Comedy Central titled “The Lovemaster…Unzipped,” co-hosting duties on HBO’s “Comic Relief 2006,” and roles on numerous prime time series. He also has voiced many hit animated series, including “Teamo Supremo,” “Monsters” and “I M Weasel.”
His stand-up DVD and CD, “The Lovemaster... Unzipped,” was released by Universal worldwide in early 2008. The CD was featured on the front page of iTunes and was in the Billboard Top 20 for six straight weeks.
Additionally, Shoemaker’s nationally syndicated radio show won the prestigious Communicator Award “Crystal” prize. Two of his stand-up comedy routines made it to the Top 10 list on XM Radio, with “Playing Army” ranking No. 1. His “Lovemaster” routine was voted Most Popular Comedy on XM Radio’s Big Schtick Awards.
Inspired by his children, Shoemaker also has published two children’s books, now in their third printing, titled What You Have Now…What Your Daddy Had Then and What You Have Now… What Your Mommy Had Then.
