Wassenaar Shares Vision for Alma Development

Virginia architect Kurt Wassenaar will share his vision for revitalizing the Alma business environment by linking development and campus growth plans during a public talk Thursday, May 3 at Alma College.

The forum, titled “Connecting Community and Campus,” will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Remick Heritage Center, Strosacker Theatre. An open reception in the Heritage Center lobby will precede the presentation at 5 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public. All are welcome.

Wassenaar, a native of Alma, is president of Wassenaar Design Group, an architecture, planning, engineering and development company based in Charlottesville, VA. He purchased the former Alma Opera House, located on the corner of Superior and State streets, following a fire that gutted the building in 2010.

In his presentation, Wassenaar will provide an update on his plans to restore the historic building in collaboration with Alma College’s initiative to house students in the downtown Alma business district.
