Kiltie Marching Band Performs Annual Indoor Show
Alma College’s Kiltie Marching Band highlights its 88th season with its annual indoor show, featuring music by Aaron Copland, Chicago and more.
The concerts take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21 in the Remick Heritage Center. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors 62 and up, and free for Alma College staff, students, and youth 18 and under. Seating is reserved. Call (989) 463-7304 for ticket information.
More than a hundred students comprise the group, including drum majors, woodwinds, percussionists, brass and color guards. Dave Zerbe, assistant professor of music, directs.
The 100-plus member Kiltie Marching Band performs at Bahlke Field.
The band has dedicated all of its performances this fall to the community of Alma in light of the tragic plane crash that took the lives of four Alma residents, says drum major Masina Rose, West Branch junior.
“The tragic happenings over the summer have been with us all season and has definitely pushed us to strive for the highest standard of performance,” says Rose. “It is hard for a community to suffer such a loss, but we want the community of Alma to know that we are here, aware and greatly moved by the tragedy.”
The Kiltie Marching Band brings its exciting halftime show inside for its annual indoor concerts Nov. 20 and 21 at the Remick Heritage Center.
Lake Orion senior Morgan Valko, a member of the color guard, says she is eager to show off the creative talents of the band.
“The bagpipers do their own thing, and the Kiltie Guard has its own unique feature that we get to write ourselves,” she says. “It’s a great creative outlet.”
Both Rose and Valko invite students, faculty and members of the community to attend the show, regardless of whether they see the band at football games or homecoming events.
“The indoor show is a really good way for the band to display its skill to people who may not come to the games,” says Valko.
“From the artistic phrases of Copland to the driving rhythms of Chicago, this show is for everybody,” says Rose.
