'Scottish Pride' Creators Honored at Community Day

Mark and Jan Knowles, owners of Stucchi's Ice Cream Shop in Alma, are the 2010 recipients of the Community Service Award. Frequent visitors to campus and the creators of "Scottish Pride," Alma College 's official ice cream flavor, the Knowles were honored at halftime of the Sept. 18 Community Appreciation Day football game at Bahlke Field.

Community Appreciation Day activities included a petting zoo, a popular attraction for families.

For five consecutive years, the Corporation for National and Community Service has named Alma College to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for engaging students, faculty and staff in meaningful service. More than 85 percent of Alma's 2011 graduating class participated in academic service learning during their time at Alma College.
