Alma Extends Sympathies to Family Members

All in the Alma College community extend their sympathies to the family members of those lost on the mercy flight from Alma to Mayo Clinic on July 23.

Ribbons are tied around the trees in front of the Dunning Memorial Chapel in remembrance of those lost in the plane crash.

Co-pilot Earl Davidson; Alma Schools Superintendent Don Pavlik; his wife, Irene; and Dr. James Hall, all from Alma, were lost in the airplane crash in Lake Michigan. Pilot Jerry Freed was rescued.

Ribbons are tied to the trees along Superior Street.

A memorial service for Earl Davidson took place at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, at the Dunning Memorial Chapel on the Alma campus.

Services for Don Pavlik and his wife, Irene, will take place at the Alma College Remick Heritage Center at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5.

Community members may pay their respects to Dr. James Hall at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8 at Masonic Pathway's Doig Chapel.

Students conducting research side-by-side with faculty has been an Alma College legacy for generations. Alma students team up with faculty on scholarly research or to collaborate on creative or performing arts projects. An annual Honors Day features student presentations, performances and exhibits. Many students present such work at regional, national and international meetings.

In the print “Sands of Time” dark shadows and textures come together with silver and grey tones to form an almost surreal beach setting. Sandy Lopez-Isnardi, associate professor of art and design, has been making traditional gelatin prints like this for more than 20 years. Her work also includes non-silver and chromogenic prints and most recently has focused on the Midwestern landscape in photography. Her digital work is experimental, including two-dimensional and installation works.
