First-year Students Advocate for Hunger Awareness
Among the 17 academic service-learning classes being taught this fall at Alma College is Joanne Gilbert’s First Year Seminar on Performance Advocacy in which students serve at the Community Café and interview the participants.

Honduras-born Freshman Becomes U.S. Citizen
The first thing you notice about Alejandro Orellana is his big smile. It seems to stretch from ear to ear. The Honduras-born freshman at Alma College has a reason to smile: He became a U.S. citizen last month.

 

The Corporation for National and Community Service named Alma College to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in both 2008 and 2009 for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. The Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.
