Alma College is open, and students are attending classes as scheduled. While several local school districts, including Alma Public Schools, have closed, Alma College has not experienced significantly high numbers of students reporting flu-like symptoms. The College remains open.

The College administered a limited amount of the H1N1 flu vaccine in the mist form to approximately 150 students during the afternoon of Oct. 28. Because students are considered in the high-risk category, the vaccine was offered only to individuals 24 years old and under. Additional clinics will be offered as more vaccine becomes available.

As of Oct. 28, about 35 students, faculty and staff have reported flu-like symptoms to the College's Counseling, Health and Wellness Center.

If there is an emergency that results in a decision to close the campus, the College will implement the emergency notification system with announcements to students, faculty and staff via primary and mobile phones and email. To ensure that they receive these announcements, students are encouraged to update their emergency contact information on the College's Web Portal.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to take flu precautions and call the College's flu hotline (989) 463-7225 if they experience flu-like symptoms.

Since 2003, Alma College students have been awarded 43 prestigious nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships, including 22 Fulbright scholarships. Alma’s Nationally Competitive Scholarship Committee identifies and nurtures exceptional candidates for postgraduate awards.
