Novelist Mary Agria To Read From Her Newest Novel

Author Mary Agria, wife of former Alma College professor and dean of academic affairs John Agria, will read from her most recent novel, Community of Scholars, in the Alma College Library on Monday, June 1.

The reading will begin at 3 p.m. and last an hour. Admission is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Agria plans to bring copies of her book for purchase and signing.

"We have been contacting faculty who were here when the Agrias were here," says Carol Zeile, library director. "We also invited people from the community to attend as well.”

Community of Scholars is a hard-hitting portrayal of campus life and politics, drawn from her perspective as a the wife of a former university administrator and president.

 

 In 2006, Mary Agria's novel Time in a Garden became a best seller and earned a major review with Writer's Digest Self-Published Literary Fiction book award competition. To see all of her novels, visit her Website.

John Agria taught at Alma College from 1963 to 1980. He later served as president at the University of Dubuque.

Title: Never Forget Your Dreams: The Creation of Crazy Horse Memorial

Joanne Gilbert, professor of communication, took students to the Black Hills of South Dakota during Spring Term 2009 to perform the play she wrote titled Never Forget Your Dream: The Creation of Crazy Horse Memorial. The students put on five performances on campus, at the Red Cloud Indian School and at the memorial relating the history of the memorial.
