Alma's Third Annual Relay for Life raised more than $28,700 for the American Cancer Society. Fund-raising efforts will continue through the the winter term to reach the $35,000 goal.

Individuals and 35 teams of students, faculty, staff, local high school students and cancer survivors — more than 300 participants — spent 24 hours Feb. 9 and 10 in the Stone Recreation Center walking the track, competing in contests and hanging out.

The top fund-raising team was the faculty/staff team, which raised $2,982. Other teams recognized in competitions were Alpha Xi Delta, Zeta Sigma, Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Sigma Sigma, Bruske Bunch, Naked Time and Volleyball.

In four years, Alma College has raised nearly $120,000 for the American Cancer Society through the Relay for Life events.
