Students Display Art at Small Colleges' Exhibition

Works of art by 10 Alma College students are featured in the 2008 Michigan Small Colleges’ Art Exhibition, which opened at Spring Arbor University on Feb. 10.

The exhibition features the works of students from Albion, Adrian, Alma, Hillsdale and Olivet Colleges and Spring Arbor University. The show is open to the public through March 15.

Alma students whose works were juried into the show include:

• St. Clair Shores freshman Shaina Buhl, a graduate of Regina High School in Harper Woods.

• Cheboygan freshman Danielle Cunningham, a graduate of Cheboygan High School.

• Cheboygan sophomore Mamie Doyle, a graduate of Cheboygan High School.

• Fenton senior Taylor Erwin, a graduate of Fenton High School.

• White Lake junior Ashlee Forde, a graduate of Walled Lake Northern High School, Commerce Township. Forde received the second place award for her metal sculpture, "Xar."

• Sault Ste. Marie junior Rebecca Miller, a graduate of Sault Area High School.

• Jenison senior Renee Pietila, a graduate of Jenison High School. Pietila received an honorable mention award for her wooden sculpture, “Bridge With Boats.”

• Alma senior Katherine Renkie, a graduate of Alma High School.

• Ada junior Mary Sugiyama, a graduate of North Hills Classical Academy, Grand Rapids. Sugiyama received an honorable mention award for her drawing, “Skeleton Still Life.”

• Alma student Susan Wright, an office associate at the Alma College library.
