Jazz Ensemble Presents 11th Annual Jazz Festival

The Alma College Jazz Ensemble performs its annual spring concert on Wednesday, April 11 and then hosts the 11th annual Alma College Jazz Festival on Thursday, April 12.

The Jazz Ensemble will present the big band music of prominent jazz, blues, swing and third-stream artists, composers and arrangers at 8 p.m. April 11 in the Remick Heritage Center. Admission is free and open to the public.

Program highlights will include Mick Jagger's "Jumpin' Jack Flash," Doc Severinson's "Blues Chorale," the old standard "You Made Me Love You," and Dizzy Gillespie's "Birk's Works."  The concert also will feature eight student soloists.

On April 12, middle and high school jazz ensembles from around the state will join the Alma College Jazz Ensemble for performances from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Remick Heritage Center. Jazz Festival admission is free and open to the public.

Alma College students have the ability to design their own area of academic concentration, with the assistance of a faculty advisor, to meet specific educational or career goals. In recent years, students have graduated with Programs of Emphasis majors in such fields as arts management, archaeology and anthropology, environmental policy and community advocacy, foreign service and international law, and music technology and digital media.
