College Democrats Samantha Pavolko, a junior from Grand Ledge; Margaret Hewitt, a sophomore from Bay City; and Christopher Adamec, a senior from Goodrich, attended the Students for Granholm meeting in Lansing on Sept. 16 with more than 70 other students from colleges and universities all across Michigan.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm met with students to stress their importance in reaching out to college students and their communities to stir up voter participation. Participants discussed the critical role of college students in statewide political efforts and planned greater coordination between motivated college students.

With the help of campaign staffers, student participants brainstormed ideas for events and voter outreach that can be implemented on campuses statewide. In the coming weeks College Democrats will be hosting a mock debate, registering voters and educating college students about the importance of voting in their personal lives.

Spring Term courses offer students opportunities to break out of the “Alma Bubble.” Off-campus study, especially in a foreign country, shows you how you relate to the rest of the world and how the rest of the world views American people, politics and policies. You can then integrate your real world experiences into your academic programs and your future career.
