Introducing future scientists, mathematicians and engineers to college life at a liberal arts institution is the purpose of Alma College’s annual Math, Science, and Technology Day (MST Day).

More than 100 students typically attend the annual event, which takes place this year on Oct. 13, 2006.

Through interaction with Alma College faculty and students, high school students will experience current scientific topics in areas such as physics, chemistry, biology, exercise and health science, psychology, robotics, river ecology, and more while working hands-on with sophisticated laboratory equipment.

“High school students who attend MST Day are introduced to exciting career opportunities available to graduating scientists grounded in the liberal arts,” says Maurie Luetkemeier, professor of exercise and health science and chair of the natural science division at Alma College. “It’s a wonderful event for students interested in the sciences.”

The formal schedule for MST Day begins at 9 a.m. with refreshments in the Remick Heritage Center and concludes by 2 p.m. Lunch in the student dining hall will be provided. Campus tours are offered at the conclusion of the formal schedule of events.
