Scottish Author to Deliver Reading

Kenneth Steven, author of The Missing Days, Iona and Wild Horses will give a reading from his work Columba on Monday, May 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the Alma College Library.

An accomplished poet, novelist, and children's author, Kenneth has published more than twenty works. His most recent publication, a children's book entitled The Sea Mice and the Stars, has been short-listed for the Scottish Children’s Book of the Year Award. Steven recently received a Sony Gold Award for his work on a radio program about St. Kilda, an island of the Hebrides. His ninth collection of selected poems will be released September 1.

A resident of Dunkeld in the Scottish Highlands, this is his second visit to Alma College to teach Scottish literature.

Steven’s reading is free and open to the public.

More than a third of all Alma students take part in at least one performance each year. The College offers majors in theatre, dance and music, but students of all majors may join in productions. The Remick Heritage Center for the Performing Arts is the region’s premiere performing arts facility.

A Truman Scholarship finalist and Center for Responsible Leadership Fellow, Drew has traveled to South Africa and China studying the HIV/AIDS crisis. The Bay City native intends to use his French minor and POE in International Health to improve AIDS care in Africa, hopefully as a physician with a global public health organization.
