Findley Awarded Grant to Write Grants for Text Materials

Dr. Nicola Findley, assistant professor of education, has been awarded a Venture Grant from Michigan Campus Compact (MCC) for a project titled "Providing Authentic Texts and Powerful Literacy Instruction."

Students from Alma's Republic Adult and Alternative High School, in collaboration with Alma College Education Department student mentors, will research and write mini-grant proposals for text materials appropriate for the alternative education classes.

Findley's grant funds the winning proposals, providing needed resources to alternative education students and teachers, and student teachers working with them. The project empowers high school students to use literacy in other ways.

Findley, one of five award recipients in the MCC 30th Venture Grant cycle, receives up to $2,500. Application for Venture Grant funds is open to faculty, staff, and students on MCC member campuses who wish to develop or expand community service programs, service-learning opportunities, and/or civic engagement activities.
