Alma College Students Help Community In Big Way

Alma College students went bowling to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Gratiot County in February in the annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake College Night.

Students raised $1,200.86 to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Gratiot County. “The Red Men” of Theta Chi, composed of Shawn Grutsch, Derek Harrison, Adam Bauer and Spiro Caro, raised the most money. Grutsch won the grand prize of a dinner for two donated by Bennigan’s in Mt. Pleasant. The Red Men won a pizza party for their fundraising.

Holly Filhart raised the most money by an individual and received an Alma College Sweatshirt and dinner for two at El Vaquero in Alma.

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its eighth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2008. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.
