Giving Tree Brightens the Holidays

Every year a Christmas tree brightens the Remick Heritage Center lobby and the holiday season for Headstart children.

The "Giving Tree" is adorned with ornaments listing the names, clothing sizes, and gift wishes of area Head Start students. Faculty, staff and community patrons of the arts select one or more ornaments and place the wrapped gifts back under the Giving Tree before Friday, December 3.

Performing arts faculty and staff, the sponsors of the gift tree, recommend that purchases be limited to around $15 and one or two gifts per ornament. The limitations allow more children to realize their holiday wishes.

"There was a wonderful response to last year's tree. We hope people will help to make the holidays brighter for some area children," Fran Groves, Heritage Center office associate, said. For more information, call Groves at 463-7130.

Students at Alma College can get involved in any of nearly 100 campus organizations, including fraternities and sororities, student government, academic honorary societies, campus media, intramural sports, the performing arts and worship groups.

Alma’s close faculty-student interaction provides numerous benefits such as the ability to do undergraduate research on a graduate level. Alma’s professors treat students more as peers welcoming student input and collaboration on faculty projects. When students are involved in research, faculty aggressively pursue publication of findings including students as co-authors.
