Volleyball Team Hosts MIAA Tournament

The MIAA Champion Scots host the semi-final and finals of the MIAA Tournament Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6. The outcome of the tournament determines which team receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs through a combination of regular season and conference tournament results.

Second-seeded Calvin (23-8, 14-2 MIAA) faces No. 3 seed Kalamazoo (18-10, 11-5 MIAA) at 5:30 p.m., Friday evening. Alma faces No. 4 seed Hope (19-13, 8-8 MIAA) at 7:30 p.m.

The Maroon and Cream have won both conference meetings this season against Hope, defeating the Flying Dutch in three games the first match (31-29, 30-23, 30-17) and taking the match to four games in the second match-up (29-31, 30-21, 30-18, 30-24). The teams also faced off in a non-league contest on Oct. 30 with the Scots winning handily in three games.

The winner of the Alma vs. Hope contest will face the winner of the Calvin vs. Kalamazoo contest at 4 p.m., Saturday, in Cappaert Gymnasium.

Alma College volleyball maintains a No. 18 national ranking, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Wednesday, Nov. 3. The Scots were ranked 18th in last week's poll.
