World Church Official to Preach in Alma

The Rev. Dr. Setri Nyomi, secretary general of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, appears at two venues in Alma Sunday, Oct. 31. Dr. Nyomi is the brother of Alma College senior Rita Nyomi of Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. Nyomi leads adult education at 9:30 a.m. and preaches at 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Alma on Charles Avenue. His topic is "How the Bible is Understood in Other Cultural Contexts."

Sunday evening at 9:00 p.m., Dr. Nyomi is the guest preacher at the chapel contemporary worship service in Dunning Memorial Chapel on the Alma College campus.

The World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC), based in Geneva, Switzerland, links more than 75 million Christians in more than 100 countries around the world. WARC is a fellowship of more than 200 churches with roots in the 16th-century Reformation led by John Calvin, John Knox, Ulrich Zwingli and many others, and the earlier reforming movements of Jan Hus and Peter Valdes.

The churches are Congregational, Presbyterian, Reformed and United. Most live and witness in the southern hemisphere and many are religious minorities in their countries.
